Maria Francesca Matteucci

Degree in Physics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1976 (supervisor Prof. F. Pacini), with the Thesis "A numerical model for the evolution of a supernova remnant". Post-degree fellowship of the National Council of Research (CNR) on the subject "Chemical and dynamical evolution of galaxies" at the Department of Astronomy of Padova University (supervisor Prof. C. Chiosi). Assistant Professor in 1982 at the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale (CNR) in Frascati. From 1983 to 1993 she is Fellow at ESO (Garching) and Visiting Astronomer at the Max-Planck Institut fuer Astrophysik (Garching). In 1994 she becomes Associate Professor at the Trieste University and since November 2000 she is Full Professor at the same University. Since November 2003 she is a member of the Italian National Academy of "Lincei". Her scientific activity has developed mainly in the field of chemical evolution of galaxies of different morphological types, stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis as well as the chemical enrichment of the ICM and IGM. In particular she has developed numerical models to compute in detail the evolution of the abundances of chemical elements in the gas in galaxies. In order to do that she took into account star formation processes as well as detailed nucleosynthesis from supernovae of different types (I and II). In the past years and now she has been supervising several Laurea and PhD thesis of both italian and foreign students. She has actively collaborated with research groups in USA and Japan. She is author of 117 refereed articles and about as many papers on conference proceedings, including about 24 invited reviews. She has recently (2001) published for the Kluwer Academic Publisher a monography with the title "The chemical evolution of the Galaxy". Since November 2000 Full Professor at the University of Trieste. From January 2000 to November 2003 responsible for organizing the PhD program in Physics at the University of Trieste. From November 2003 member of the National Italian Academy “Accademia dei Lincei” for the sector of Sciences (Mathematical, Physical and Natural). From November 2003 to October 2006 Head of the Astronomy Department of the University of Trieste
